A Study on Pulmonary Function of the Taekwondo,Wrestling,Boxing,Judo Athletes

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the lung volume and the maximal voluntary ventilation of the Taekwondo, Wrestling, Boxing, and Judo athletes.
Subjects were sixty-one male athletes who were living in cheon-nam districts and twenty-five male college students as the non-athletic group.
The followings were mainly observed for the study; respiratory rate(RR), vital capacity(VC), expiratory reserve volume(ERV), tidal volume(TV), inspiratory capacity; (1C), and maximal voluntary ventilation(MVV).
The results obtained were summarized as follows:
1) Respirator- rate: (cycle/min, M¡¾SE)
Taekwondo athletes show 13¡¾0.75, wrestling athletes 13¡¾0.86, boxing athletes 14¡¾1.05, judo athletes 121¡¾0.88, and non-athletes 16¡¾0.93. Respiratory rate showed a decreasin- tendency in athletic groups that compared to non-athletic group.
2) Vital capacity; (L, M¡¾SE)
Taekwondo athletes show 4.98¡¾0.098, wrestling athletes 3.87¡¾0.127, boxing athletes 4.12¡¾0.103, judo athletes 4.37¡¾0.120, and non-athletes 3.76¡¾0.083. The vital canacity in taekwondo athletes was significantly increased as compared with non-athletes.
3) Tidal volume (mt, M¡¾SE)
Taekwondo athletes show 630¡¾19.7, wrestling athletes 637¡¾24.1, boxing athletes 603¡¾20.9, judo athletes 655¡¾21.3, and non-athletes 593¡¾15.5. The tidal vqlume in judo athletes was significantly incr-ased as compared with non--athletes. 4; Maximal voluntary ventilation (L/min, M¡¾SE)
Taekwondo athletes shwv 137.5¡¾32, wrestling athletes 143.3¡¾11.36, boring athletes 136.4¡¾7.86, judo athletes 152.0¡¾9.41, and non-athletes 123.7¡¾6.53. The maxit-Pal voluntary ventilations; in wrestling and judo athletes were significantly increasod as compared with non-athletes.
